Instrument Cleaning and Maintenance

Keeping your instrument well maintained is the most important thing you can do for it, however it is a task which is frequently neglected by musicians!

Each time you play everyday dirt, skin oils, sweat, rosin, and (worst of all!) makeup and fragrance are transferred onto the instrument. Combined, these result in a quick build up of grime, particularly on the body of the instrument, which dampens the sound by reducing vibrations. The impact dirt has on the sound of an instrument is astonishing! If left for long enough grime build-ups will begin to irreversibly adhere to the varnish of your instrument, resulting in damage.

At 23 Violins we offer a variety of instrument cleaning and maintenance services (listed below) to help keep your instrument performing at its best. Please get in touch to discuss your requirements.

Current situation:
We are currently offering a pre-arranged instrument pick-up service which complies with social distancing. We have also introduced additional hand-washing and cleaning measures when swapping instruments. Please get in touch to discuss if you would like us to clean or work on your instrument.
