At 23 Violins we offer a full instrument photography service. High quality photographs are extremely useful for valuation, insurance, condition monitoring and recording purposes. We have spent years refining and perfecting our instrument photography. All of the photographs on our Instruments for Sale pages are done in-house.  

Our instrument photography service is not limited to a specific number of photos as it is essential to capture all the features which make your instrument unique! The checklists below provide an indication of the photographs included.

For instruments we work to the following checklist:

• The front - full shot (including neck and scroll) and body only
• The back  - full shot (including neck and scroll) and body only
• The scroll - both sides
• The f holes - both 
• The arching - both sides
• The label (if present) - as seen through the f holes
• Any interesting or unusual details (for example, decorative inlay) 
• Any previous repair work (for example, neck grafts/pegbox patches/new edging/button grafts/ebony crowns)
• Any damage (most common: worn edging!)

For bows we work to the following checklist:

• The frog - both sides, top and bottom
• The tip - both sides
  
• A section of the stick to identify shape and material
  
• Any stamps or markings 
  
• Any unusual details
