The IKEA CelloThis cello was nicknamed the 'IKEA' Cello due to the fact it has spent a lot of its time with us flat-packed because of repair work needed after extensive woodworm damage. We reckon this is possibly an old English cello. It has no label but contains contains a number of repairers marks, the earliest dating from 1822. Most notably it contains a repairers label by Dearlove, handwritten, stating that it was exhibited at the Great Exhibition in London in 1851.
As pictured below, repair to this cello has been extensive and varied (!) but predominantly with the aim of repairing/replacing sections of the body with severe woodworm damage. |
